UK EQUINE LAW REQUIREMENTS – COMPULSORY
This Transfer accomplishes the Change of Ownership within the UK for BAPSH Ltd Registered Horses. It updates the Passport into the new owner’s name and address, and updates the UK database records, including the DEFRA Central Equine Database (CED), so that your horse’s MICROCHIP is registered to your contact details.
Registering a Transfer of Ownership is a legal requirement for all horses within 30 days of the Sale being completed.
IMPORTED HORSES MUST be Registered with an EQUINE PIO within 30 days of Arrival in the UK and this also registers the new Owner’s Name and Address. To check which breeds BAPSH registers go to this page STUDBOOK & BREEDS REGISTERED
Horses with 25% or more Certified PRE (APTO) blood are eligible for registration in one of the BAPSH PRE Associate Breeds Studbooks – check with the Registrar if you are unsure which Studbook is appropriate.
Horses of PRE-Type with un-certified or undocumented PRE ancestry are eligible for registration in the PRE Fusion Horse Studbook Appendix-B if they meet the criteria.
Owners MUST complete a UK Import Registration with BAPSH Ltd which includes the Transfer of Ownership at no extra fee. See BAPSH website section on Imported Horses
PROCEDURE TO TRANSFER/ CHANGE THE OWNERSHIP OF HORSES REGISTERED WITH BAPSH Ltd
Download the BAPSH Ltd Transfer of Ownership Application 2022 . Complete the BAPSH Transfer Application Form clearly and legibly with all the requested details, including date of sale, and the Signatures of both Seller and Buyer.
NOTE: The form will be rejected without the genuine seller’s signature on the BAPSH Transfer document. The fee is £35.00 – inc P&P ‘Royal Mail Signed For’ service (Cheque/Postal Order paid to BAPSH Ltd). If a Bank Transfer is more convenient the Account details are at the bottom of the Transfer Application Form.
Send the Transfer Form, with the Horse Passport and the Cheque, to the BAPSH Ltd Studbook Registrar by either Special Delivery or Royal Mail Signed For Delivery. The Registrar will complete all necessary changes of ownership for UK law and return the Passport to you within 7-10 working days.
Completion of the Transfer means that the horse is now the legal responsibility of the new owner within the UK and the MICROCHIP is registered to the new owner’s contact details and all changes are uploaded to the DEFRA Central Equine Database.
If there are any difficulties with completeing the Transfer Procedure as given above, then please get in touch with the Registrar straight away so that the problems can be tackled.
